Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project Shines A Light On Emerging Artists
2013 Program Expands to Seven Cities Giving Artists Unique Exhibition & Career Boosting Opportunities
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project offers emerging artists local gallery showcases, unique and permanent installation opportunities and the chance to show and sell their art at SCOPE Miami -- the premiere showcase for international emerging contemporary art which runs during Art Basel.
In 2013, Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project will host gallery showcases and competitions in seven cities across the country -- San Francisco (January), Los Angeles (March), Chicago (May), Dallas (June), New York (September), Atlanta (November) and Miami (December). In each city, 20 hand-picked artists will be paired with venue owners from some of the hottest local bars, lounges and restaurants. Artists will be given a one-day challenge to transform a blank canvas-wrapped Red Bull Cooler into an inspired work of art customized for permanent display at each venue. The art created in each city will be exhibited in a one-night only public showcase at a local gallery where attending guests and a panel of curatorial judges will vote on each piece ultimately sending two artists from each city to SCOPE Miami.
The first showcase will take place in San Francisco on January 31, 2013 at 9 p.m. at Public Works. The 20 featured artists include: Carly Ivan Garcia, ErikOtto, Apex, Akira Beard, Studio DCL, Ian Ross, CHOR BOOGIE, Eon75, Hugh Leeman, Zio Ziegler, Kelly Allen, N8 Van Dyke, D Young V, Jet Martinez, Ryan De La Hoz, Slvstr©, Nathan Wong, Oliver Black, Tommy Noshitsky, Joshua Clements. Last year, Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project was hosted in 4 cities; included nearly 100 artists; was curated by luminaries in the art world including pop artist Ron English, acclaimed director and author Jon Reiss, Carlo McCormick (Paper Magazine) and Daria Britt Shapiro (SCOPE) among others. Ultimately, 10 artists were awarded the opportunity show and sell collections at SCOPE Miami during Art Basel. Featured artists representing New York were: Gerardo Cid, L'Amour Supreme, CLAWMONEY and Cosbe. GOONS, Hebru Brantley and Don't Fret represented Chicago alongside Los Angeles artists Gregory Siff, Lydia Emily and Hans Haveron.

The Red Bull Curates booth at SCOPE Miami drew a large audience of art dealers and aficionados including Sean Combs, Adrian Grenier, Kellan Lutz, Cassie, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, David Macklovitch of Chromeo and Stephen Dorff, Marian Goodell of Burning Man. Notable art collectors who purchased pieces from the Red Bull Curates exhibit including Brandon Lloyd of the New England Patriots.
