Recycled. Repurposed. Remarkable: e Series Solid Surfacing
Formica Corporation becomes first major solid surfacing manufacturer to use post-consumer recycled content
CINCINNATI, June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The green building market is booming, and the demand for sustainable materials is high. Formica Corporation is meeting that demand with its all-new e Series Solid Surfacing, the first major branded solid surfacing material to contain post-consumer recycled content.
Each sheet of e Series Solid Surfacing has been certified to contain 15 percent total recycled content – 10 percent pre-consumer and 5 percent post-consumer. Pre-consumer recycled content consists of reclaimed solid surfacing while post-consumer recycled content is derived from reduced foam, both Styrofoam cups and packaging.
"We've been making some great progress in recent years to ensure Formica Corporation is a mainstay supplier of environmentally friendly surfacing materials that appeal to homeowners and commercial architects, designers and builders," stated Bill Roush, director of communications at Formica Corporation. "The e Series Collection enables us to assist our customers in making environmentally responsible purchasing decisions, yet it remains competitively priced within the Signatures Collection."
e Series Solid Surfacing may contribute to an overall project's recycled content through LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits in categories NC & CI MR Credit 4 and CI MR Credit 5. "When calculating post-consumer recycled content for LEED credits, the full percentage is valid, whereas the formula for calculating pre-consumer recycled content is divided in half," Roush added. "That's a compelling advantage."
Patterns in the 2011 e Series Collection coordinate with the 2010 Commercial High Pressure Laminate Colorbox concept. Each of the nine Colorboxes feature a solid color with harmonizing textures, patterns and woodgrains across the Formica® brand product lines. Bringing new depth to the Colorbox concept, e Series is available in six neutral earth tones:
- e Surf – a white gray with warm brown particulates pick up the gray tones from the Neutral Colorbox coordinates
- e Natural – a warm neutral with brown particulates; works well with golden tone woods
- e Cafe – a classic gold with natural influences of light gray flecks and brown particulates; coordinates with the Cafe patterns in the Colorbox
- e Earthen – a usable mid-tone brown that complements Earth and Chocolate patterns; color has more pronounced light gray flecks
- e Seed – a natural grayed green with ivory flecks; works well with the Seed and Possum Colorbox concepts
- e Fog – a mid-tone gray with warm golden brown particulates; coordinates well with Terril and Citadel while providing nice contrast to the gray undertones in the Neutral Colorbox
The neutral color palette of the e Series Collection is suitable for domestic use in the kitchen and bathroom as well as a full range of commercial applications.
e Series Solid Surfacing by Formica Group is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute under the GREENGUARD Standard for Low-Emitting Products, including the requirements for Children and Schools.
