RecycleBank Taps Industry Leaders Ian Yolles and Samantha Skey for Executive Team
Yolles Appointed as Chief Marketing Officer and Skey as Chief Revenue Officer
NEW YORK, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- RecycleBank proudly announces the appointments of Ian Yolles as Chief Marketing Officer and Samantha Skey as Chief Revenue Officer. The announcement was made by RecycleBank CEO, Co-Founder and Chairman Ron Gonen, and is effective immediately.
Yolles and Skey add depth to RecycleBank's leadership team and join the company at an important inflection point. RecycleBank, which launched in 2004, initially focused on rewarding consumers for household recycling. Today, RecycleBank services more than 300 communities in 26 states and the United Kingdom, and has demonstrated it can significantly increase recycling rates by influencing consumer behavior using the carrot—rather than the stick—approach. Now RecycleBank is taking the natural next step in the company's evolution—rewarding consumers for choosing other greener actions and behaviors such as e-waste recycling, responsible junk disposal, and energy reduction.
"As we continue to evolve and expand on the consumer facing side of our business and develop more substantive marketing partnerships, we are excited to welcome Ian and Samantha to the RecycleBank team. They both bring tremendous expertise and experience," Gonen said. "RecycleBank has ambitious growth plans for 2010 and beyond, and Ian and Samantha will be instrumental in helping us meet our goals."
Yolles joins RecycleBank with extensive entrepreneurial and executive level leadership experience managing brand building and marketing activities for some of the world's most influential consumer product companies, including The Body Shop, Patagonia and Nike. Prior to RecycleBank, Yolles was part of a small team that founded Nau, an innovative retail-direct outdoor lifestyle apparel company where he brought the brand's narrative to life via a digital-centric approach to marketing and storytelling. With a passion for the outdoors, Yolles was the youngest Executive Director of Outward Bound in the non-profit organization's history. Throughout his career, Yolles has built brands that have differentiated themselves based on their strong commitment to sustainability. Yolles is from Toronto, Canada, holds a BA from Antioch College, received a postgraduate Research Fellowship from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation and is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.
"I'm thrilled to join the RecycleBank team given the unique focus on influencing consumer behavior to engage in green actions," Yolles said. "RecycleBank's innovation story is becoming increasingly relevant, as consumers more and more want to 'do the right thing' while brands work to integrate sustainability into their day-to-day operations. It's our intent to act as a positive catalyst as those two worlds increasingly converge."
Skey brings RecycleBank a wealth of experience in new revenue creation for online and offline media and marketing businesses. Skey was the Chief Marketing Officer at Passenger, Inc., a social software company providing online community for top brands. An innovator in building innovative online revenue models, Skey was the Executive Vice President of Strategic Marketing for Alloy Inc., and has served in management positions at the Walt Disney Company, CNET and Interactive Imaginations. Skey regularly consults with leading organizations in social media and youth advocacy and holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Hamilton College.
"I'm excited to be a part of a company that enables full service green marketing solutions for brands while motivating consumers to do good," Skey said. "Consumers crave transparency and engagement from the brands they buy, and RecycleBank enables that meaningful connection."
