Recent Test Results on Disinfection Effect of Major Contact Lens Multi-purpose Solutions Show that Bausch + Lomb ReNu MultiPlus Solution Demonstrated Superior Disinfection Against Acanthamoeba Trophozoite
HONG KONG, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- In December 2009, the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan (NCACJ)(refer to Note 1 below) published the test results measuring the disinfection effect of major contact lens multi- purpose solutions against Acanthamoeba trophozoite, a cause of severe corneal infection. According to the NCACJ report, there are increasing cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis in Japan and the majority of sufferers are soft contact lens users.
In the research, NCACJ conducted two tests on eight of leading commercially available multi-purpose solutions in Japan. In the study, ReNu MultiPlus was the ONLY multi-purpose solution that effectively reduced Acanthamoeba trophozoites down to 1/1000 (0.1%) of its original number within the study's minimum soak time of two hours. The disinfection efficacy remained effective after eight hours.
