HUD's Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control and its partners are honoring the achievements of organizations who are "Leading the Nation to Healthy Homes, Families and Communities." Rebuilding Together accepted one of these awards during the Conference, as one of the leaders whose work has provided solutions and advancements to a safer and healthier way of life for thousands of neighborhoods across the country.
Rebuilding Together and its affiliate, Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, hosted a special pre-conference event, "Building a Healthy Neighborhood" in the Barnum neighborhood of Denver, before the start of the National Healthy Homes Conference. This event reflected the mission of the national conference, which has a goal to create real and sustainable solutions for safe and affordable housing. Rebuilding Together's nationwide and year-long work incorporates healthy home principles throughout the rebuilding process.
Building a Healthy Neighborhood addressed the substandard housing conditions in the Barnum neighborhood; providing critical repairs, health and safety interventions and community repairs with the help of volunteers, AmeriCorps members, national sponsors, and local leaders.
"At Rebuilding Together, we have a number of focus areas created to address various issues found throughout low-income living conditions in the U.S. These include: veterans housing, modifications for people living with disabilities, green housing and aging in place," said Gary A. Officer, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "We are grateful for this recognition, which appropriately reflects and honors our efforts to holistically approach and create sustainable and healthier living solutions for homeowners across the country, through a diverse approach."
Rebuilding Together and other award winners were recognized last night during the National Healthy Homes Conference at the awards reception.
