"Experience hope renewed through Rebuilding after Sandy, our first-ever web series documenting Rebuilding Together's work to date since Superstorm Sandy," said Charley Shimanski, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "The series is a unique opportunity to tell some of the many incredible stories through the eyes of two volunteers who introduce us to homeowners, first responders, volunteers, affiliates and many other partners who have put in countless hours to rebuild their homes and their lives since the storm."
The series follows Maria and Melanie, two volunteers affected by Sandy, over several months as they learn about Rebuilding Together by volunteering on multiple home rebuilding projects with local affiliates Rebuilding Together NYC and Rebuilding Together Bergen County.
Rebuilding after Sandy consists of 19 two-three minutes segments, and can be viewed in a playlist on Rebuilding Together's YouTube channel. New videos will be released three times a week for six weeks starting September 16. The final episode will be a retrospective with a call to action for ongoing support of long-term recovery efforts, and will air on Tuesday, October 29, the one-year anniversary of Sandy. Additional information and the full playlist can be found at http://rebuildingtogether.org/sandy/web-series/.
Some of the highlights include TV personality Ty Pennington talking about the volunteer experience, Mark and Theresa of the radio show MyFixItUp Life getting involved in the volunteer effort, first responders sharing their stories about rescues, and others including lifestyle correspondent for ExtraTV, Hilaria Baldwin, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Michael Passante of President Obama's Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding taskforce.
Rebuilding Together's Sandy recovery efforts have been made possible by the support of the American Red Cross, Choice Hotels, Crate and Barrel, Lowe's, Meredith Corporation, Sears and many other generous organizations and individuals.
