The Excellence in Community Service Award was presented to Rebuilding Together for outstanding accomplishments and dedication to providing free home repairs and rehabilitation services to low-income homeowners, elderly, disabled, families with children and veterans. The Financial Services Roundtable made the presentation during the Democratic National Convention last week in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"We are honored that the Financial Services Roundtable has presented Rebuilding Together with its Excellence in Community Service Award, "said Gary A. Officer. "Together, the members of the Financial Services Roundtable and Rebuilding Together are working to help more people live in safe and healthy homes, transforming vacant housing into viable homes, and making modifications to Veterans' homes so that they can live more securely."
Some examples of how Rebuilding Together is working with members of the Financial Services Roundtable include:
- Wells Fargo and Rebuilding Together have joined efforts to help communities across the country transition Real Estate Owned (REOs) properties into safe, affordable homes while continuing to help existing homeowners with repair or renovation needs through a new REO homes program. Through the REO program this year. Wells Fargo donated foreclosed homes to Rebuilding Together affiliates in eight cities. Participating Rebuilding Together Affiliates are in the following cities: Baltimore, Los Angeles, Oakland, Philadelphia, Providence, Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin Cities), Tampa, and Washington, DC.
- Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade was able to renovate the home of an elderly woman thanks to a generous grant provided by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation.
- BBVA Compass and Rebuilding Together partnered in May of 2012 to help three homes occupied by senior citizens. This was made possible largely by a $75,000 contribution from the BBVA Compass Foundation.
- BNY Mellon has been a community sponsor of Rebuilding Together Philadelphia from since 2011.
"Rebuilding Together is an organization that works to help low-income homeowners who need a little help to get back on their feet. This repair and rehabilitation work that is done by volunteers and skilled trade professionals, is exactly what we need to make a difference in our communities," said Steve Bartlett, Financial Services Roundtable CEO.
