Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps is the organization's national AmeriCorps program that was created to serve Rebuilding Together's extensive Affiliate Network, which has over 200 offices in cities and towns across the country. CapacityCorps members assist in the growth of Rebuilding Together affiliates and also ensure the capacity and efficiency of affiliates to serve as many low-income homeowners and families as possible. CapacityCorps members' daily work includes: community outreach, energy efficiency education, direct home repairs for homeowners, and volunteer recruitment.
AmeriCorps recently announced that they are offering grants totaling $234 million to support more than 57,000 new AmeriCorps members who will serve U.S. communities in various ways. AmeriCorps lists five national priorities: strengthening education, expanding health services, assisting veterans and military families, building a green future, and fostering economic opportunity. Rebuilding Together's CapacityCorps' program aligns with two of the five national priorities: economic opportunity and building a green future.
This is Rebuilding Together's third consecutive year receiving AmeriCorps funding. Their newest grant allows them to expand from 44 to 65 positions for CapacityCorps members for the upcoming program year. Due to this expansion, 6 new affiliates in Rebuilding Together's network will welcome AmeriCorps members, further expanding Rebuilding Together's ability to serve more homeowners in low-income communities.
AmeriCorps reports that the application numbers were significantly higher this year, which rendered the application process considerably more competitive. Rebuilding Together was one of 329 organizations out of the 605 that was approved for funding. The 40 new CapacityCorps members will be formally introduced to the Affiliate Network and enter member training in August, during Rebuilding Together's "Fifty for Five" event in New Orleans commemorating the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
