Kickoff to Rebuild, an NFL Super Bowl Sanctioned Charity event, occurs annually in the host city of the Super Bowl and engages members of the NFL community to assist low-income neighborhoods. Hundreds of volunteers will work with past and present NFL members and players, Indianapolis community leaders, celebrities, and corporate sponsors to revitalize nearly a dozen homes and build a Carter's Kids playground in the Indianapolis neighborhood of Near Eastside.
"Rebuilding Together looks forward to Kickoff to Rebuild every year; the impact which occurs in the Super Bowl host neighborhoods is immediately manifested through the hard work and collaboration of community volunteers, the NFL, and our corporate sponsors," said Gary A. Officer, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "This event combines the excitement of the Super Bowl with the dedication of community members to make their neighborhoods healthier and safer long after the Super Bowl has occurred."
HGTV's Carter Oosterhouse, host of Carter Can, in association with his foundation, Carter's Kids, and Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers, will build a playground for the children of Near Eastside neighborhood. Also attending are Rebuilding Together's media partners HGTV and the DIY Network. Radio hosts and partner, On the House with the Carey Brothers, will broadcast the day's activities.
Lowe's and Carter's Kids' Foundation have built six new playgrounds over the past year for communities and schools in-need. These playgrounds promote healthy activity, self-esteem and fitness for the nation's youth.
Historically, the NFL donated $1 million to each Super Bowl host city. The Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee decided to increase the scope and vision of the project, and through an impressive multi-year commitment will reinvest $154 million back into the Near Eastside neighborhood, including the Kickoff to Rebuild project. Kickoff to Rebuild's sponsors also include: CBRE, HGTV and DIY Network, Indianapolis Power & Light Co., National Roofing Contractors Association, NFL Play 60, the NFL Player Care Foundation, Kmart and PNC Bank.
