In 2005, Leonard and Louise Riggio created Project Home Again (PHA), pledging to build 100 homes for displaced lower-income families. This project represented the largest privately funded residential rebuilding program post-Katrina, and the first-of-its-kind collaboration between a private foundation and the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) and the City of New Orleans.
In November 2012, PHA started a second phase of its recovery work through a neighborhood revitalization project that uses zero-interest loans from the Riggio Foundation to construct 100 new homes for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers.
"The challenge of rebuilding New Orleans is immense," said Len Riggio, Project Home Again's Founder. "PHA provides an economically sustainable way for us to lend a hand by providing displaced residents of a much-loved city a place to once again call home."
