ANAHEIM, Calif., April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The state government is now offering rebates to those who install synthetic grass in light of California's severe drought. The nation's largest synthetic grass distributor, Synthetic Grass Warehouse (SGW), also serves as a resource center for businesses and individuals and advises those with natural grass to switch to synthetic grass, and in return, they are eligible for a rebate.
Rebates can be returned in hundreds to thousands of dollars and is based off the square footage of the installation. Rates and application processes differ between each water provider, so SGW refers interested persons to their city's local water supplier for more specific information. Today, almost every water provider in the Southwest offers rebates for synthetic grass installation with a goal to aid in the drought restoration.
"The effect of the drought is already evident on every street corner in California. Residents and businesses aren't able to water their lawn, and even drought resistant plants require watering. There are a lot of businesses who put a strong emphasis on having a visually appealing landscape, and are now unable to maintain the most important part – their grass," said SGW co-owner, Joe Ayoub. "Why not take advantage of what the government is offering? Not only do we get a beautiful, water-free lawn, but we also get a significant portion of our investment back. Best of all, it's maintenance-free. I personally saw my return on investment in just one year after installing my grass from both my rebate and not having to water my lawn."
More than 50 percent of the state's water costs are dedicated to watering natural grass and many states across the nation are placing more water restrictions in residential and commercial areas due to the current drought. For every one-square-foot of grass, 55 gallons of water are saved, according to the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority began offering rebates to Las Vegas residents in 2002 in hopes that it would encourage homeowners and business owners to install synthetic grass. Since then, it has saved more than 10 billion gallons of water.
