Reappointment to the National Gallery of Canada
GATINEAU, QC, Dec. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the reappointment of Marc Mayer as Director of the National Gallery of Canada for a term of five years, effective January 19, 2014.
"I am delighted to have a person of Marc Mayer's calibre continuing to lead the National Gallery of Canada," said Minister Glover. "His expertise and knowledge of the national and international art scene will continue to be highly valuable to the Board and to the Gallery."
Mr. Mayer was first appointed Director of the National Gallery of Canada on January 19, 2009. He is a recognized leader in the world of museums and galleries and has held numerous influential positions in the field of visual arts both nationally and internationally. He has also served on the boards and committees of a number of organizations. Mr. Mayer holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Art History from McGill University.
