CANCUN, Mexico, Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Renewable Energy Accountability Project (REAP), has placed anti- coal billboards at the Cancun International Airport. "The world leaders at the COP16 conference need to boldly act toward a healthy energy future. We must transition to cleaner and affordable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and natural gas generated electricity. Burning dirty coal needs to be eliminated sooner rather than later for the health and future of our planet and its people," said Jim Gonzalez, Chair of the Renewable Energy Accountability Project.
The billboards depict fallout from such disasters as the 60 mile coal traffic jam in China, the decimation of Navajo health from the pollution of Four Corner's Coal plant, the tragic Massey Coal mine collapse in West Virginia, and the Tennessee Valley Authority Coal Ash sludge disaster.
The Cancun End Dirty Coal Billboard Project coincides with the release of REAP's new anti-coal documentary Dirty Coal: the Toxic Addiction to be premiered in Cancun at the Hotel Now Sapphire Riviera on December 6th.
REAP is a nationwide grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring energy independence and reducing atmospheric pollution. REAP monitors and reports on the progress of clean electricity generation as we transition away from dirty coal and fossil fuels. It's Chair, Jim Gonzalez, served on the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco.
