REAP Offers its Prayerful Hope for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' Recovery
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 11, 2011 The Renewable Energy Accountability Project (REAP) joins millions of our fellow Americans in offering our prayers for the recovery of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, our nation's foremost renewable energy advocate.
"REAP is devastated by this senseless and brutal attack that tragically ended six lives, including a federal judge, a dedicated Congressional staffer, and a nine year old girl learning about democracy. We offer our deepest condolences for all who have suffered as a result of this violence. We look forward to Congresswoman Giffords' full recovery," stated Jim Gonzalez, chair of REAP.
REAP especially recognizes Congresswoman Giffords' role in championing renewable energy. Congresswoman Giffords authored and passed H.R. 3585, a $2.25 billion bill that would streamline the Energy Department's solar energy research and development. A member of the Committee on Science and Technology and on the Subcommittee on Energy and Environment, Giffords coordinates solar energy education seminars for her constituents. Last year, she installed a 2-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on her Tucson home with husband and NASA astronaut, Mark Kelly.
-- REAP is a nationwide grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring energy independence and reducing atmospheric pollution. REAP monitors and reports on the progress of solar and clean energy generation, as we transition away from dirty coal and fossil fuels.
