Reality-Challenged Sen. Reid Faces Blowback About $1Million 1-Bedroom Condo at Ritz
If He Likes Searchlight So Much, Why Spend So Many Nights in Vegas?
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It seems that Sen. Reid has come under increased scrutiny for his ultra posh second home in Washington, DC at the Ritz-Carlton, now valued at a cool million bucks. He scoffs at the scrutiny in a Politico article (linked here: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/43989.html) arguing that it is just a one bedroom apartment.
"All I can say is: WOW! A one bedroom condo worth a million bucks? Are the bathroom faucets solid gold? Is the hallway carpeted with mink? That's some ultra-deluxe little pied-a-terre, Sen. Reid. We're sure that Nevadans struggling to make ends meet can really relate," said Audrey Mullen, a spokeswoman for 1001 Reasons to Vote Against Harry Reid.
"It is particularly amusing to note his continued insistence that he lives in Searchlight and spends his in-state time there. Our Committee released a report yesterday detailing how Sen. Reid has sought taxpayer reimbursement hundreds of times for stays in Las Vegas. Since being sworn in to the Senate in 1987, Sen. Reid has taken about 269 per diem expenses totaling $124,315.69—a staggering $170,814.18 in inflation-adjusted dollars. Since Searchlight is a short drive from Las Vegas, one can only assume that he really doesn't like it there in non-election years," Mullen concluded.
