REAL Trends 500 Report Ranks Nation's Largest Real Estate Firms
CASTLE ROCK, Colo., March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- REAL Trends, the trusted source for news, research and information about the real estate brokerage industry, announced the results of the 2016 REAL Trends 500, an independently verified compilation of the nation's leading residential real estate companies.
According to a recent research report produced by REAL Trends, the 500 largest residential real estate brokerage firms in the nation closed over 2.9 million residential sales transactions in 2015. These transactions represent close to 29 percent of all new and resale transactions completed by brokers during the year, yet the REAL Trends 500 represented less than three-fifths of one percent of all brokerage firms. The 500 ranked brokers closed 2.9 million home transactions with a value of over $934 billion during 2015, up from $810 billion in calendar year 2014.
This year's survey represents the most comprehensive collection of data assembled on the leaders of the residential brokerage industry. Numbers are documented by outside accounting firms.
"Housing sales in the nation were up 9.5 percent in 2015 from 2014 marking one of the strongest years since the downturn in the 2005-2010 period," said Steve Murray, president of REAL Trends. "However, firms ranked in the REAL Trends 500 were up 13.1 percent well outperforming the national housing market."
It took 1,702 transactions to be included on this year's REAL Trends 500, up from a minimum of 1,495 transactions a year ago. "In 2014 there were 170 firms recording over $1 billion in residential sales while there were 209 firms that accomplished this in 2015. It was an incredible year for the nation's leading residential real estate brokerage firms," said Murray.
NRT, LLC led the REAL Trends 500 as the largest residential brokerage company in the country. The firm closed 342,300 transactions in 2015. Owned entirely by Realogy, NRT acquires residential real estate brokerage firms and operates them as affiliates of Coldwell Banker, Sotheby's International Realty, Corcoran, and Zip Realty.
Number two on the list of the nation's largest firms is HomeServices of America Inc. headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, with 230,813 closed transaction sides. Number three on the list is The Long & Foster Companies, Inc., headquartered in Chantilly, VA, with 82,259 transactions and number four was Pittsburgh-based Hanna Holdings, Inc., with 61,677 transactions.
