Real-time Medical Technology Redefining US Healthcare
Bill Anderson, Business Development for Healthcare Services at Intelenet® Global Services, says real-time data capture is holy grail of healthcare technology.
NEW YORK, Jan. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology and healthcare providers are leveraging data to encourage more value-based care. Technology giant Apple recently announced that it's starting a trial enabling US customers to automatically download and view their medical records using their iPhones through the company's Health app.[1]
The rise of the wearable and home-based medical devices -- which capture real-time patient and medical data -- has ballooned within hospitals, clinics, and pharmaceutical and tech companies. They are investing heavily in these technologies as the shift to value-based care becomes a major priority.
The healthcare analytics market in particular is expected to reach USD 29.84 billion by 2022 from USD 8.92 billion in 2017, at a CAGR of 27.3%.[2] Its growth is a result of increasing cost pressures, the need for better patient care and rapid technology advancements.[3]
The use of remote patient monitoring technologies has the potential for further cost reductions. Thirty-percent productivity gains are achievable in clinical trials by embracing the technologies that enable real-time data capture and analytics.[4]
Regulators and patient campaigners have for years pushed for data-sharing standards within the medical sector to make it easier for records to flow between hospitals and doctors' offices.[5] Combining richer, more frequent data sets from multiple systems, encourages smoother communication across different departments and health providers.
Bill Anderson, Business Development for Healthcare Services at Intelenet® Global Services, comments, "Strained budgets and cost pressures are pushing health providers to rethink how they can support physicians and others in the health-care sector in their day-to-day workflow. Real-time data capture married with automation workflow processes will allow them to direct their attention to encouraging value- based patient care."
Bill continues: "Real-time data capture is the holy grail when it comes to healthcare technology. Extending practitioner and patient interaction through patient smartphone (Bring Your Own Device—BYOD) streamline the communication to lead to enhanced patient engagement.
"For the care providers, integrating various streams of medical data, creates a more efficient work flow process which allows increased transparency for different medical professionals to have access, allowing for more informed decision-making. Doctors are able to view a holistic and a broader picture of a patient's health by combining previous and real-time data.
"But decision-makers within the healthcare sector still need to revamp their clinical operating models which hold the data. This will allow them to deliver scalable, efficient, and high-quality care while reducing operational costs and promoting better patient care delivery."
