READING, Mass., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Health eVillages, a program founded by global healthcare activist Donato Tramuto and Physicians Interactive in partnership with the not-for-profit Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, today announced that its Collaborative Coalition will be working with the Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) to provide relief to victims of Nepal's devastating earthquake. The Coalition includes partners MedHelp®, WelVU™, Univadis® and The Tramuto Foundation.
To kick off the Nepal earthquake relief campaign, Health eVillages and Physicians Interactive have made a significant donation to RMF. In addition, they are working in tandem with the Coalition partners to drive digital outreach, awareness and online donations to the RMF Nepal Earthquake Donations fund.
Anyone interested in making an online donation in support of the Collaborative Coalition's relief efforts for Nepal can do so through the RMF's Nepal Earthquake Donations web page. 100% of all contributions designated for Nepal will be used exclusively for earthquake relief efforts. Since the RMF is registered as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charity organization with the IRS, all donations are tax deductible. Companies can also contact Tim Boivin of the Coalition at 224-209-6495 or at [email protected] to contribute supplies.
Nepalese officials state that more than 8,400 people are confirmed dead from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The worst earthquake to hit Nepal in 80 years, it struck the central part of the country between Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara early on Saturday, April 25th. It also affected regions in India and China.
"The Real Medicine Foundation appreciates the help of Health eVillages Collaborative Coalition in providing humanitarian support to people affected by the earthquake in Nepal," said Cindy Aliza Stein, CNM, MSN, MPH, Director of Global Programs for the Real Medicine Foundation. "We work hand-in-hand with the local population on the ground in Nepal to ensure that aid goes where it is needed most. Donations made through the Coalition will help the RMF provide the medical, physical, emotional, economic and social support that the victims of this earthquake so badly need."
Donations made on behalf of the coalition to the RMF will be used to support the operations of a mobile hospital and provide supplies for treating trauma victims and operating blood banks. They will also be used for tents and tarps, generators, solar cell electrical solutions, satellite phones and water filtration systems.
"The Real Medicine Foundation, under the guidance of Founder and CEO Dr. Martina Fuchs, has an infrastructure in place and people on the ground already responding to this dire situation," said Donato Tramuto, the founder of Health eVillages, Chairman and CEO of Physicians Interactive and a 2014 RFK Ripple of Hope laureate. "The Collaborative Coalition was created to address exactly these types of challenging situations, whether through technological support, financial resources, or by providing badly needed medical and shelter supplies. We are proud to be working with the Real Medicine Foundation to help provide the basic essentials following the earthquake to the people of Nepal."
The goal of the Health eVillages Collaborative Coalition is to support global relief efforts through mobile- and web-based applications that provide HCPs with practical clinical knowledge, as well as data to help reassure patients and reduce panic during natural disasters and public health responses. Coalition members decided to expand their support efforts to include financial donations for the Real Medicine Foundation in response to the Nepal earthquake.
The Collaborative Coalition was initially established in October 2014 in response to the Ebola outbreak. Since then, Coalition members have worked together to share information on Ebola throughout the world, delivering targeted communications on the disease to more than one million US consumers and 3.3 million HCPs in 36 countries.
Mark Friess, CEO of WelVU and a Health eVillages Advisory Board Member, said, "This Coalition's ability to quickly respond to human suffering, whether it is an epidemic such as Ebola or the earthquake in Nepal, is a great way for organizations to mobilize to help fight any public health crisis. The WelVU team is proud to be part of such an important initiative."
Organizations in in the Collaborative Coalition currently include:
- Health eVillages, which provides iPod®, iPad®, and other handheld devices equipped with specialized references and clinical decision-support tools to healthcare professionals (HCPs) in underserved areas around the world.
- Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, whose global programs partner with individuals, charitable organizations, businesses and government agencies to carry forward the late senator's vision of building a more just and peaceful world.
- Physicians Interactive, which distributes information in crisis situations to HCPs through its free Omnio® mobile application and its MedAlert Pro™ messaging application.
- MedHelp, which shares information with millions of consumers through its website and award-winning mobile apps in pregnancy, women's health, diabetes, diet and fitness.

Shona Davies, the Univadis Programme and Communications Leader, said, "The Nepal earthquake is the latest example of how our coalition offers much needed help to HCPs and the general public around the world. Together, our partners leverage their resources to support ongoing relief efforts in the worst affected regions while also tapping into our global audience to identify volunteers who want to help."
