Real Estate Industry Working with Law Enforcement to Address Terrorist Threats
WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Real Estate Roundtable's President and CEO, Jeffrey DeBoer, today issued the following comment regarding the propaganda video released by the Al Shabaab (Somali) terror organization calling for attacks on shopping malls in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Europe:
"Owners and managers of America's real estate take security risks very seriously and are constantly adjusting their security and response plans as information dictates. In recent days mall owners in particular, working with law enforcement, have taken multiple steps to address the latest threats. Some of these steps are visible to the public and some are not.
"In addition to ongoing location- and property-specific actions, our industry created the Real Estate Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RE-ISAC) shortly after 9-11. RE-ISAC is a partnership with federal homeland security and law enforcement agencies to receive and share information regarding potential terrorism and other security risks, and to jointly develop and implement appropriate responses. This partnership continues to be productive and relevant.
"Terrorism risk mitigation – against both physical and cyber threats –is a top priority for the real estate industry. It is a critical aspect of managing any facility where people live, work, shop and play."

About The RE-ISAC
The Real Estate Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RE-ISAC) – www.reisac.org – is a public-private partnership between the U.S. commercial facilities sector and federal homeland security officials organized by The Real Estate Roundtable in February 2003. The RE-ISAC serves as the primary conduit of terrorism, cyber and natural hazard warning and response information between the government and the commercial facilities sector, thereby strengthening the security and resilience of the U.S. commercial facilities/commercial real estate critical infrastructure. Real estate has a dominant influence on the nation's economy and is part of the Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Facilities (CF) Sector. The CF Sector is one of the few Critical Infrastructure (CI) sectors that terrorists have attacked successfully. RE-ISAC members include the principal owners, investors and managers of commercial facilities in the U.S., and is supported by ten trade associations.
