Reagan Wireless Headquarters Earns the First LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Certification in Deerfield Beach, FL.
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Reagan Wireless, a worldwide distributor, reseller, recycler, and wholesaler of mobile phones and accessories has earned LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification, from the U.S. Green Building Council under the Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB: O&M) rating system. The rating system encourages owners and operators of existing buildings to implement sustainable practices and reduce the environmental impact of their buildings, while addressing the major aspects of ongoing building operations.
The nearly 50,000 square feet of offices and warehouse space which Reagan Wireless occupies, is the first building in Deerfield Beach, Florida to earn a LEED certification under the Existing Buildings: Operations & Management rating system. Although Reagan Wireless has engaged in the practice of recycling electronics since its inception, the team came together to reduce overall waste sent to the landfill and is now outperforming the competition by diverting nearly 100% of waste generated in daily operations. Reagan Wireless also improved purchasing policies by replacing 80% of its consumable purchases with more sustainable products. Through a variety of energy efficiency strategies including lighting upgrades, the introduction of solar tubes, and the installation of energy producing solar photovoltaic panels, the Reagan Wireless building achieved a "top performer" Energy Star score of 86, establishing it as one of the most energy efficient buildings of its type as compared to similar buildings nationwide.
"In addition to achieving LEED EB: O&M certification, Reagan Wireless and CEO Daniel Kaufman have demonstrated commitment to sustainability by obtaining the Responsible Recycling (R2) as well as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, making the company, one of the most 'green' facilities of its industry," said Carolina Whitfield, Project Coordinator at SEQUIL Systems, Inc.
