Reading Kingdom Receives 4th Patent for its Innovative and Unique Literacy Instruction System
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Reading Kingdom, the award-winning, online reading program, is excited to announce that it has received its fourth patent. Authored by Reading Kingdom founders, Dr. Marion Blank and Jonathan Blank, the patent (number 9,245,456) is for a "Literacy education system" and covers Reading Kingdom's groundbreaking Six Skill Integrated Method. It represents a significant evolution in how to teach children to read, write and comprehend.

The methods described in the patent are only available at Reading Kingdom and ASD Reading, Mojo Learning's innovative online programs that teach children ages 4-10 to read and write with comprehension at a 3rd grade level. Reading Kingdom is for neurotypical children, while ASD Reading is for children with autism and other learning disabilities.
Current reading instruction relies almost exclusively on phonics, or "sounding out." The problem with that approach is that English spelling is highly irregular. There are over 1700 ways to spell 40 sounds, and fewer than 1 in 5 words can be sounded out! Moreover, success in reading requires six key physical and language skills – not just the single skill of turning letters into sounds.
It is because of this reliance on inadequate systems of instruction that the Department of Education's National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the largest nationally representative assessment of what students know, has found for over 30 years that 2 out of 3 students are failing to achieve proficiency in learning to read! 1 out of 3 students is at "below basic," 1 out of 3 is at basic, and only 1 out of 3 is at proficient and above – with fewer than 1 in 10 children achieving an "advanced" level. It is a national tragedy that requires a fundamental shift in the way we teach our children to read.
Reading Kingdom's Six Skill Integrated Method, on the other hand, offers a new and far more effective approach to the teaching of reading. Noticeable improvements in student reading proficiency can be seen after only a month of use.
Reading Kingdom's unique Six Skill Integrated Method ("6-SIM") was developed over the last 40 years by Dr. Marion Blank, a world-renowned expert on literacy and language development in children and the recipient of the Upton Sinclair Award, which honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to education. The methods were further refined and enhanced by Jonathan Blank, Dr. Blank's son, who has been developing cutting edge e-learning software for over 15 years.
