PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- RB is proud to support the California Cleaning Product Right to Know Act of 2017 (SB-258), which passed in both the Assembly and the Senate, and now moves on to the Governor for consideration. As stated in our letter of support before the vote, effective product labelling enables customers to make more informed purchasing decisions, and it is why RB looks forward to a similar response from the California Governor.
"For RB, this decision is a natural progression of increased transparency over 15 years in the making in the US," added David Campbell, VP of Regulatory & Government Affairs for North America. "RB was amongst the first companies who started increased online voluntary disclosure in 2009 and have been leaders in standardizing disclosure requirements across product lines."
In addition to its written support of this bill, RB was part of a joint industry working group with leading NGO's and California policy makers to negotiate this new ingredient disclosure bill. RB has also been actively working with the State of New York on a similar regulation. Both will set new standards in ingredient transparency in the US for cleaning products.
The company's disclosure model will include both an on-label and an on-line component:
On-Label Disclosure
- Full ingredient disclosure on all of its US cleaning products, which include its disinfectant labels. The ingredient statements on these products will look like what is commonly found on cosmetic products. This will provide consumers the same level of ingredient information on the label across all RB product lines in the US, helping consumers to make informed choices and be confident about the products they trust to clean and protect their home.
- Inclusion of an on-label fragrance allergen statement for relevant products, which is of increasing importance to consumers with allergies and sensitivities to fragrances.
On-Line Disclosure on its www.rbnainfo.com website
- Comprehensive disclosure of 99.99% of the fragrance ingredients, with even further disclosure of select ingredients.
- Additional ingredient and technical information on the products as well as RB's corporate sustainability efforts.
"Thank you, RB, for your leadership efforts to bring a diverse set of stakeholders to the table to hammer out a bill that sets a new high bar for cleaning product ingredient disclosure," said Janet Nudelman, Director of Program and Policy at Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, a co-sponsor of the bill. "With the passage of SB258 by the state legislature, Californians and consumers across the country just got one step closer to getting the cleaning product ingredient transparency they want and deserve!"
