R&B Impresario Kashif Partners with Royalty Exchange to Fund Documentary Film Series
Proceeds to Raise Awareness of Worldwide Impact of R&B Music
RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Royalty Exchange, the online marketplace for music and entertainment royalties, today announced that funds raised from royalties sold by R&B singer, songwriter, producer and six-time Grammy nominee, Kashif, will be used by the artist to help fund the production of a documentary entitled The History of R&B Music and Its Influence on World Culture.
The recent auction included hits written and produced by Kashif for superstar performers such as Whitney Houston, Kenny G, George Benson, Janet Jackson and many others, raising $156,000, the second-highest auction sale price on the Royalty Exchange site since its launch.
Proceeds will be used to complete production and secure worldwide distribution for the documentary film project, produced and directed by Kashif. Kashif will tour 18 cities across four continents to capture interviews with hundreds of artists, managers, producers, radio people and others in order to reveal the true significance of R&B Music. During his stint in New York he has interviewed greats such as Kool & The Gang, Valerie Simpson, Freddie Jackson, Will Downing, B.T. Express, and others. Kashif has also partnered with the R&B Foundation whose mission is to assist aging musicians with health and housing issues. A portion of the proceeds from Kashif's documentary will benefit the organization.
"Rhythm & Blues music is one of the greatest American art forms. It was the genesis of this popular music phenomenon that gave birth to both rock and roll and soul music, as well as funk, disco and other styles," said Kashif. "Beginning with traditions of African and American folk themes, jazz rhythms and Delta blues, guitar players from the Deep South put their own stamp on the sound, and the whole world was influenced by it – the next generation needs to appreciate this history and know who the innovators have been over the years to better understand the global impact of R&B Music."
Kashif will be undertaking additional fundraising initiatives through the popular crowd funding site Indiegogo in early 2014.
"Kashif is an excellent choice to produce this incredible series on the history of R&B, both as a musician and producer who was a part of that history and as an author, educator, historian and behind-the-camera film director," said Royalty Exchange co-founder and Vice President, Reggie Calloway. "We are honored to assist him in the pursuit of his passion – this is a terrific example of our goal to help royalty owners make their assets work for them and the community."
