Housed at INNOVENTIONS at Epcot®, Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Sum of all Thrills™ debuted in October 2009. It showcases math in action: Visitors design their own thrill ride using math fundamentals to calculate for variables such as acceleration and velocity. Once the design is complete, participants board a 3-D simulator to ride their creation through all the dips, dives, loops and barrel rolls.
Facts about Sum of all Thrills™:
- First ride experience located within INNOVENTIONS at Epcot® at the Walt Disney World® Resort
- Guests are able to choose from a total of 709 seconds (almost 12 minutes) of unique ride simulation motion to create their 90-second ride
- Acceleration and velocity are calculated using the Finite Difference method – the application of numerical methods for approximating derivatives in mathematics
"Raytheon's Sum of all Thrills inspires students of all ages to push their creative limits to new heights as they design and experience their own thrill ride," said Pamela Erickson, Raytheon's vice president of Community Relations. "By combining math fundamentals with an immersive, fun, hands-on experience, Raytheon hopes to pique student interest in STEM education and career pursuits."
Raytheon's online Sum of all ThrillsTM, launched in 2011, invites students to create and enjoy the excitement of the experience via their home and school computers.
