Raytheon submits proposal to build the Global Aircrew Strategic Network Terminal for the US Air Force
Satellite terminals offer secure communications for air crews
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), the only provider of fielded Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite communications terminals that provide survivable, secure, jam-resistant communications to the U.S. military, has submitted a proposal to build the Global Aircrew Strategic Network Terminal (GASNT) for the U.S. Air Force.
GASNT is a nuclear command and control system that will use both Extremely High Frequency (EHF) and AEHF waveforms to provide protected communications in difficult environments. The terminal provides wing command posts and mobile support teams with survivable communications to send and receive alerts, called Emergency Action Messages.
GASNT will enhance the existing system by delivering increased capacity and capability.
"With a 30-year history in highly secure satellite communications terminals, Raytheon is well positioned to provide the Air Force with reliable, efficient, cost-effective terminals to handle one of the nation's most sensitive and important communications needs," said Scott Whatmough, vice president of Integrated Communication Systems for Raytheon's Network Centric Systems business.
Raytheon is already in production on three different AEHF terminals for the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force. All three have successfully tested with the on-orbit AEHF satellite and have demonstrated interoperable communications.
Additionally, in September 2012, Raytheon was awarded another contract from the Air Force for development of the Family of Advanced Beyond Line of Sight Terminals (FAB-T) for the Airborne Command Post Terminal requirement.
GASNT proposals were due to the Air Force Jan. 18 with a contract award expected in June.
