Raytheon issues latest installment of its $2 million annual commitment to STEM-based scholarships and grants
Awards recognize dedicated students, teachers and their schools for science, technology, engineering and math excellence
WALTHAM, Mass., April 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is closing out its Mathematics Awareness Month celebration by announcing $360,000 in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) scholarships and grants, part of the company's commitment of more than $2 million in annual funding for STEM education. The awards, part of Raytheon's MathMovesU® program, recognize both students who exemplify a passion for STEM and teachers who engage students in STEM excellence. Award recipients are being notified by Scholarship America® throughout the month.
One hundred fifty middle school students from across the country each received a $1,000 MathMovesU Middle School Scholarship – which can be used toward a math and science camp or a technology program this summer, or to save for college. The scholarship winners were chosen from applicants who created multimedia presentations describing the importance of math in their daily lives. Each recipient's middle school received a matching $1,000 grant from Raytheon.
Complementing the student awards and matching grants, Raytheon recently announced the recipients of $3,000 scholarship awards each to 20 elementary teachers and science specialists. The scholarship awards enable educators to attend an Engineering is Elementary® Professional Development workshop created by the Museum of Science, Boston and to purchase supplies for their classrooms. The 20 educators are among the first to benefit from Raytheon's $1 million grant toward the Raytheon-EiE Teacher Scholarship fund.
