Raytheon enhances Common Sensor Payload capabilities
Company introduces high definition EO/IR derivative of its CSP
WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has successfully demonstrated the enhanced capabilities of its new CSP HD turret, a high definition electro-optical and infrared version of its Common Sensor Payload (CSP). The initial CSP HD system flight test occurred on a U.S. Army Gray Eagle UAS (unmanned aircraft system) platform in September.
Built upon the existing CSP system, CSP HD provides significantly improved image quality and resolution compared to Standard Definition (SD) systems. Raytheon is continuing its flight test activities onboard a manned demonstration aircraft equipped with both HD and SD CSP turrets to provide operators with real-time comparisons.
"We developed this product in direct response to the warfighter. They requested improved imagery, and we believe the HD version of Raytheon's CSP will exceed their expectations," said Jerry Powlen, vice president for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems for Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business.
The CSP-turreted system was competitively selected for the U.S. Army Gray Eagle UAS and helicopter reconnaissance missions. More than 100 CSP systems have been delivered and deployed, supporting warfighter operations. The CSP has accumulated thousands of operational flight hours and has successfully completed demonstrations as part of the Gray Eagle UAS, exceeding all requirements, including reliability.
The CSP HD system is currently available for new production and/or retrofit of existing CSP turrets.
