Raymond Greenberg Named Board Chair of the Association of Academic Health Centers
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Raymond S. Greenberg, MD, PhD, executive vice chancellor for health affairs, The University of Texas System, was named chair of the board of directors of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) at its annual meeting held September 17-19 in Chicago. A nationally recognized academic leader and cancer researcher, Dr. Greenberg is responsible for administrative and strategic oversight of the six academic health science institutions within the University of Texas System, which educates more than two-thirds of the state's healthcare professionals annually.

Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. Greenberg served as president of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where a major emphasis was on building collaborative efforts such as a statewide partnership involving research universities and teaching hospitals, a health information exchange between all Charleston area hospitals focused on sharing data between emergency departments, and new health-related alliances in bioengineering and other disciplines.
Jean E. Robillard, MD, vice president for medical affairs, The University of Iowa, was elected to the position of chair-elect of the AAHC board. A pediatric nephrologist, he leads a comprehensive and fully integrated academic health center, known as UI Health Care, which has become a model for academic medicine in the 21st century. Under Dr. Robillard's leadership, UI Health Care has experienced tremendous growth, including a world-class biomedical research facility dedicated to high-risk, high-reward collaborative research; a new, $290 million state-of-the-art children's hospital; and participation in a statewide health alliance comprising 60 percent of the state's hospitals.
Newly elected to the board for three-year terms are: Angela L. Franklin, PhD, president and CEO, Des Moines University; J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, executive vice president for the health system, dean, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania; and Paul B. Roth, MD, chancellor for health sciences, CEO of the UNM Health System, and dean, School of Medicine, The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Elected for a one-year term is Howard J. Federoff, MD, PhD, executive vice president for health sciences, executive dean of the School of Medicine, Georgetown University Medical Center.
