Rat Rod Magazine Becomes First Ever Two-Time Innovator Award Winner
SHAKOPEE, Minn., Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Minnesota based national newsstand publication Rat Rod Magazine has been awarded its second Innovator Award by the MMPA (Minnesota Magazine & Publishing Association) during last week's award gala. This is the first time in MMPA history that the Innovator has been awarded to the same magazine twice.
Rat Rod first won the award in 2012 in part for the creation and implementation of a unique numbering system. This year the Innovator was awarded in part for a unique cross-promotion where Rat Rod shared a cover image with a motorcycle magazine (Ride Hard Magazine, St. Louis) and expanded both magazine's audiences. The cover image showcased the winners of the two magazine's co-sponsored national rat rod and bike build-off.
"It's an amazing feeling to be recognized for our creativity," Steve Thaemert, Rat Rod's editor and creator says. "It's the heart and soul of our operation. Every day we're proving even a small staff on a small budget can do very big things."
Aside from the Innovator Award, Rat Rod received 9 other MMPA Excellence Awards including its third consecutive top honor (Gold) for cover design in its category. The awards cap off a milestone year in which the magazine grew its audience into the millions.
