Rasmussen College to Host Nationwide Winter Career and Networking Expo
Local Events Kick Off Simultaneously at All 22 Campuses on February 16; Bi-Annual Expo Aims to Enhance Students' Career Search Success, Link Graduates with Local Job Opportunities
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Rasmussen College today announced it will once again host its annual nationwide Winter Career and Networking Expo on Thursday, February 16 at all 22 Rasmussen College locations around the country. The Career and Networking Expo will feature simultaneous workshops, webinars and networking events that will give students and the community at-large an opportunity to enhance their career search skills. The event kicks off with a Rasmussen College Online Networking Webinar January 31, February 1 and February 2. Admission to all events is offered at no cost to the public.
The theme for this year's Winter Career and Networking Expo is networking, with each event highlighting the importance of effective strategies to assist in networking in both finding and landing a position in today's ultra-competitive job market. Workshops, webinars and other events will provide tips and suggestions for how to build and maintain a professional network that can lead to new career opportunities. In addition, local business partners at select Rasmussen College campuses will participate in panel discussions and other one-on-one events that give students a chance to start building that all-important network by meeting and talking with professionals in their area.
According to some estimates, between 75 and 80 percent of all jobs are found through networking and personal relationships, which is why building those connections is so important.
"That means if you are solely relying on the convenience of online sources to find and apply for jobs, you're missing out on the vast majority of great positions, which are increasingly filled through this hidden job market," said National Director of Career Development at Rasmussen College, Tamryn Hennessey. "Even the local newspaper's 'Help Wanted' ads do not begin to cover the best opportunities. You need to be out there, meeting people and forging relationships. That is what our Career Expo is all about—helping students make connections, make a great first impression and follow-up appropriately so they don't miss out."
The 2011 Rasmussen College Winter Career and Networking Expo resulted in approximately 2,500 participants and over 400 companies in attendance.
"With our economy's persistently high unemployment rate, we are excited to provide an opportunity that brings together employers, students and the community in an environment that builds career networks," said Rasmussen College Chief Executive Officer Tom Slagle. "We are committed to being active members of our communities and developing relevant solutions that address local demands; our Career Expos have successfully addressed a growing need over the past several years and we are excited about what the Winter Expo will bring."
