OCALA, Fla., July 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, today announced the opening of its new, School of Nursing facility in Ocala. Construction on the new nursing campus, located at 1227 Southwest 17th Ave., was completed in June. Students began using the new multimillion dollar, 21,000-square-foot facility Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to open our new Ocala School of Nursing campus and see the space come to life," said Pete Beasley, Rasmussen College Ocala campus director. "The new facility provides an enhanced learning experience with spacious classrooms, labs and high-tech simulation equipment that will train our students for success in increasingly complex and demanding healthcare environments."
"While we are especially proud to help more students realize their dream of becoming a nurse, we are also excited for the opportunities this new facility brings to the Ocala community and surrounding areas," said Dr. Karen Guty, Rasmussen College Ocala dean of nursing. "With the new, larger campus, Rasmussen College can better meet the increasing demand for quality nurses to fill open positions across the region. We also are pleased to be able to open the campus to community organizations and other businesses for use as a meeting and event space, training facility or lecture hall."
Enhanced Nursing Classrooms
The new nursing campus consists of 10 classrooms and simulation labs to help prepare students entering today's complex healthcare environment. The campus also has expanded indoor and outdoor study spaces for faculty, students and community organizations – all equipped with free, high-speed internet.
Faculty and students will have access to the following:
- Two skills labs, each with four patient rooms, manikins and a lecture space, where students learn how to perform specific tasks such as starting an IV or preparing an injection.
- Two simulation labs, each with four patient rooms and a nurses' station, where students perform learned tasks in a patient care experience. Simulation equipment includes new high-tech manikins and nursing beds that faculty can control in a one-way mirror observation room. Faculty can also record students performing tasks and then play back the video for an advanced learning experience.
- Four classrooms for lectures and coursework.
- Two computer rooms.
