MINNEAPOLIS, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, will recognize more than 1,500 graduates from its five Twin Cities campuses and Rasmussen College Online on Saturday, July 13, 2013. This year's commencement ceremony will take place at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m.

The graduates from summer 2012 through spring 2013 will be presented with certificates, diplomas, Associate's and Bachelor's degrees from the schools of Business, Design Education, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Technology. Many of the graduates are also industry certified – credentials that help them standout in today's competitive job market.

Andre Koen, community leader, public speaker, mentor and activist, will deliver the commencement ceremonies' keynote address. The son of a Black Panther-turned-preacher, Koen learned at a young age the importance of reaching across cultural lines to seek understanding and acceptance, and has extensive experience in educating others regarding anti-racism. Koen is also well-known for his creation of innovative and behavioral changing courses, both for the classroom and online learning.
Alyssa Grindy, Surgical Technologist graduate from the Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus, was selected as this year's student speaker. Grindy is a highly-motivated individual with a passion for helping others. During her time at Rasmussen College, she mentored fellow students in her program. She was also recently recognized for her dedication to education with a National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) scholarship.
