Rarities Edition Albums Issued for Eric Clapton's 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD, Joe Cocker's MAD DOGS & ENGLISHMEN, Marvin Gaye's LET'S GET IT ON and 3 Doors Down's THE BETTER LIFE
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Rock greats Eric Clapton and Joe Cocker, soul legend Marvin Gaye and Modern Rock favorite 3 Doors Down join the Rarities Edition album series, featuring essential collector's tracks associated with an artist's classic album. Originally packaged with the two-CD Deluxe Editions of those albums, these discs are now available as a single-album for the first time beginning November 2, 2010.
-- Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard – Rarities Edition (Polydor/UMe)
The 1974 tour for Clapton's second solo album, 461 Ocean Boulevard, considered a crucial milestone in his much revered catalog, featured members of that album's band, an ensemble that would serve as his backing group for five years. This Rarities Edition compiles the best of a triumphant two-night stand at London's Hammersmith Odeon in December 1974. While tapping "I Shot The Sheriff" and "Let It Grow" from the album, the concert also showcases Cream and Derek & The Dominos chestnuts, a bittersweet rendition of Charlie Chaplin's "Smile" and an extended blues medley. Added exclusively for this album are a session outtake and three previously unreleased studio recordings.
-- Joe Cocker – Mad Dogs & Englishmen – Rarities Edition (A&M/UMe)
In the pantheon of classic live albums and films, Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen stands alongside Woodstock and The Last Waltz in defining the rock generation. In 1970, the craziest, loudest and longest rock 'n' roll circus, starring Cocker plus Leon Russell, the tour's musical director, hit America. Capturing Cocker and Russell in their prime, this Rarities Edition collects performances recorded but not included on the original two-disc album. Also heard is backup vocalist Claudia Lennear, who handles the Beatles' "Let It Be" while Cocker once more reprises the Fab Four's "Something" and "With A Little Help From My Friends."
-- Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On - Rarities Edition (Motown/UMe)
In 1973, Gaye released Let's Get It On, perhaps the most passionate and sexual album ever recorded. Nearly 40 years later, the title song remains the #1 love song of all time. This Rarities Edition tells the musical story of the making of that album through extraordinary demo or alternate versions of every song from the album; alternate Gaye-produced versions of "Just To Keep You Satisfied" by Motown groups the Monitors and the Originals; several songs Marvin recorded with other producers; three cuts from a secret instrumental-only Detroit jam session Marvin put together and a rare live version of the album's second hit, "Come Get To This."
-- 3 Doors Down – The Better Life – Rarities Edition (Universal Republic/UMe)
Recorded live in Houston, TX, in February 2003, on the band's tour for its sophomore album Away From The Sun, this Rarities Edition features performances of all of 3 Doors Down's first eight singles, including "Kryptonite," "Loser," "Duck And Run" and "Be Like That" from the Mississippi-born band's 2000 debut album The Better Life. The Modern Rock hits continued from the follow-up, Away From The Sun, with "When I'm Gone," "Here Without You," "The Road I'm On" and the title track. Also included are "Father's Son" and "It's Not Me," songs previewed on stage and later recorded for 2005's Seventeen Days.
