Raritan's New dcTrack Software Greatly Simplifies and Reduces the Cost of Implementing a Data Center Infrastructure Management Solution
-- dcTrack Virtual Appliance model introduced; Release 2.4 simplifies data center capacity management and lowers operations cost --
SOMERSET, N.J., Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan today announced that its award-winning dcTrack™ data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software solution is now available as a VMware®-ready virtual appliance, lowering total cost of ownership by dramatically simplifying installation and saving countless hours for deployment and configuration. In addition, platform operating system and database licensing costs are eliminated, along with their associated integration costs.
With a new web-based architecture, combined with a number of new usability enhancements, dcTrack release 2.4 is designed to improve the daily operations of managing change and capacity in the data center and reduce operating costs associated with decentralized and manual tracking of data center assets.
For data center managers who lack effective tools and processes to manage change and capacity, dcTrack provides easy, point-and-click access to asset information and Visio®-like visualization tools to help improve data center utilization. Armed with accurate up-to-date information, along with detailed power and Ethernet cable plant management, operators can save valuable time by being able to quickly locate available capacity and determine optimal locations for placement of IT equipment in their data centers.
dcTrack maintains real-time views and granular details of every asset and their connections across the entire data center -- including servers, networking and environmental assets. It also provides up-to-the-minute views of a data center's power consumption, heat dissipation, and available floor and cabinet/rack space for efficient capacity management.
"dcTrack provides clarity into data center operations -- What you have, where it is, and how it's connected -- in order to support decision making and to avert unplanned interruptions in service," said James Cerwinski, Manager, Software Products at Raritan. "It eliminates the complexity of multiple spreadsheets, floor plans and connection diagrams by incorporating all data center information into a single consolidated solution for better correlation and analysis. This makes moves, adds and changes, and capacity management easier, faster and more accurate. It helps improve data center efficiency and productivity, thereby lowering the cost of data center operations."
Enhancements in dcTrack 2.4 software are designed to simplify data center management by delivering easier data imports, LDAP user authentication, and an improved user interface. dcTrack 2.4 also includes new workflow/audit reports, including: "What Connects to" report that shows all equipment connected to a particular circuit breaker; Structured Cabling report, and snmpTrack report that can plot rack PDU outlet-level readings.
