-- Silver Award presented to Raritan's dcTrack software for its unique ability to manage data center facilities, networking, and IT systems assets and their interrelationships; 'Vision associated with dcTrack is a desirable direction for the industry,' say judges. --
SOMERSET, N.J., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan today announced its dcTrack™ 2.2 software won a TechTarget SearchDataCenter.com 2009 "Product of the Year" award. A panel of judges selected dcTrack 2.2 from a number of products submitted for consideration in the Data Center Infrastructure award category, which encompasses backup power, data center cooling and infrastructure support products. The awards were judged by the SearchDataCenter.com editorial staff, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts, and consultants.
Winners of the SearchDataCenter.com 2009 "Products of the Year" awards exemplify innovation, performance and value. Products were also scored based on ease of integration into existing environments, functionality, and ease of use and manageability.
According to SearchDataCenter.com, dcTrack management software addresses the dynamic nature of today's enterprise data centers, where there is "a multi-disciplinary jumble of different systems and business units that need to work together, but rarely speak the same language. The facilities and IT silos each have their own systems for managing data center capacity and configurations." The publication added that "many of the tools available today, such as CMDBs, do not drill down deep into the infrastructure layer in the data center, including the provisioning of network, cabling, and power connectivity to the servers and other devices in the data center. They don't provide IT users the ability to visualize their data centers down to granular levels."
In presenting the silver "Product of the Year" award to Raritan, SearchDataCenter.com said: "Raritan's dcTrack 2.2 gives data center managers visibility to all domains in the data center down to very granular levels. dcTrack can provision new systems and servers accurately and reliably. For example, when a new server is about to be added into the data center, before physically installing it, IT professionals can plan this activity in dcTrack by configuring the server in dcTrack, assigning it to available rack space, connecting to available structured cabling patch panels, connecting it to available network resources, and, most importantly, connecting to available power resources. dcTrack can verify not only that the power socket is available, but also that power is available at every step in the power chain up to the UPS or the source feeding the power into the data center. Once you are able to pass through the planning stage, you can begin physically installing and connecting the server by using the built-in change management system to issue requests and work orders."
The judges also said the vision associated with dcTrack of "getting IT and Facilities departments on the same page" is a desirable direction for the industry.
"As recipient of a 2009 'Product of the Year' award, we are delighted with this prestigious industry recognition for dcTrack and its management technologies that help IT and facilities organizations keep pace with the growth and changes in their data centers with limited staff," said Khaled Nassoura, General Manager, Green Data Center Initiative at Raritan. "dcTrack excels at providing insight into the relationships among all the parts in today's complex data center environments, helping to improve capacity planning and utilization, support change management, and drive costs out of data center operations. The result is a single version of the truth of all your data center assets that enables you to direct your finite resources towards proactive management."
