Raritan Showcases New Connection Management Capabilities of dcTrack DCIM Solution at Data Center World
—Unveils New ROI Calculator for dcTrack—
LAS VEGAS, March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan is showing the new connection management capabilities of dcTrack® 2.6 DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) software at AFCOM Data Center World this week. dcTrack 2.6 keeps track of IT and facility assets -- including power and data network connections -- as well as the relationships between these resources, so that data center professionals can have a complete view of their data centers and can quickly see how potential changes to infrastructure elements could impact data center operations and business applications.
With its second-generation automated connection management capabilities, dcTrack helps data center professionals build and manage data network and power connections quickly and efficiently, instead of having to rely on tools, such as Excel and Visio, that are not designed to be used as DCIM tools.
"A complete DCIM solution includes connection management, because without these capabilities you only have a partial view of your data center infrastructure and partial understanding of your data center resources and their interrelations," says James Cerwinski, Software Manager at Raritan. "Better visibility of end-to-end connections of infrastructure resources greatly reduces time associated with adding, changing and repairing equipment, as well as data center planning. It also enables untapped capacity to be discovered and used; reducing capital and operational expenditures."
To learn how much time and money could be saved potentially with dcTrack, Raritan today introduced a new ROI calculator. The ROI tool takes into consideration the savings that can be realized if a data center leverages dcTrack's tools that make more efficient use of power, cooling, space and connection resources -- as well as staffing resources.
Intelligent Connection Management
Using dcTrack's new Web interface, complete network and power connection maps can be viewed, and more details are revealed with a simple click on a map. Network circuits are shown end-to-end with all the intermediate nodes, providing detailed information about each node or connection point. dcTrack's intuitive circuit builder has the flexibility to model any data network topology going through any number of patch panels without violating connectivity standards.
dcTrack 2.6 also enables the user to model the power path from the data center's uninterruptible power supply (UPS) going through the power distribution units (PDUs), circuit breakers, rack PDUs, and down to the load – the servers and switches – without allowing power capacities to be exceeded at any node.
Raritan will be showing dcTrack 2.6's new intelligent connection management capabilities, as well as other DCIM solutions, in Booth#930 at the AFCOM conference.
