Raritan Introduces Economical Intelligent Rack PDU with True kWh Energy Metering
- New PX-1000 Series delivers cost-effective energy intelligence to data centers -
SOMERSET, N.J., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan today added a new family of intelligent rack power distribution units (PDU), the Raritan PX-1000 Series, to its power management portfolio. Setting a new performance standard, the high-quality, metered-PDU PX-1000 comes with built-in intelligence, integrated support for optional environment sensors, Web-based energy performance tracking capabilities and a multitude of security features.
"The PX-1000 is a smart choice for companies that want accurate and continuous power monitoring in order to get to the heart of power issues -- such as identify ways to reduce energy costs, orchestrate efficient cooling among racks, and optimize capacity," said Herman Chan, Director of Raritan's Energy Management Business. "Raritan continues to apply its unmatched combination of engineering capabilities, technology innovation and global partner ecosystem to deliver solutions that help companies manage their data center power and cooling resources more efficiently."
The PX-1000, and Raritan's other intelligent rack PDUs, gather extensive and accurate power information, including data on voltage, current (Amps), power factor, apparent power (kVA), active power (kW), environmental temperature and humidity and energy consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh). To make it easy for data center operators to view power activity, real-time information can be seen on the PDU's LED display at the rack and from a remote user interface via a Web browser. User-configurable critical and non-critical power and environmental thresholds can be set, and alerts sent so data center managers can take corrective action.
PX delivers the industry's most accurate measurement -- with ISO/IEC +/- 1% billing-grade accuracy -- on the important kWh metric; whereas other solutions only measure current (Amps) or determine kWh through calculations and assumptions, instead of real-time measurement. "kWh is key to knowing the real cost of power usage and carbon footprint," said Chan. "With the introduction of our new PX-1000 Series, Raritan is now offering true energy metering technologies for data centers of all sizes."
Also new with the PX-1000 is the industry's first auto-flip PDU display that changes the orientation of the LED display when the PDU is rotated, which provides added rack installation flexibility . In addition to Ethernet, the PX-1000 comes with additional ports -- including USB-A (host), USB-B (device), Feature/KVM, and DB9 RS232 serial.
All PX models are fully supported by Raritan's Power IQ® Energy Management software that provides additional monitoring and management capabilities. Also available are optional environmental sensors that are automatically detected and displayed as soon as they are plugged into the PX-1000. Raritan's sensors track temperature and humidity at the rack to help eliminate over cooling and hot spots.
As part of the PX-1000 introduction, Raritan unveiled a free sensor promotion. With each PX-1000 purchased this year, customers will be given a free temperature sensor.
PX-1000 is available worldwide starting today from Raritan's channel partners. List price starts at $449. More information on Raritan's power solutions can be found at www.raritan.com/energy-metering
About Raritan's Intelligent Rack PDUs
Raritan's intelligent rack PDU portfolio is the largest in the industry and includes single-phase, three-phase, high power (400V), outlet-metered, outlet-metered and outlet-switched, and metered rack PDUs and inline power meters to meet the needs of diverse IT environments.
Raritan PX intelligent rack PDUs are fully compatible with Raritan's Power IQ energy management software for analyzing power usage and tracking trends. Enterprise-wide data gathered by Raritan's intelligent PDUs, third-party rack PDUs, and in-line meters enables Power IQ's analytics to calculate and chart active power, energy consumption, cost and carbon footprint for servers and other IT devices. Power information is presented in user-configurable graphs and reports that can be accessed from anywhere with Power IQ's Web-based dashboard. Graphs can easily depict which devices are consuming the most energy, whether power conservation efforts are working, and if there are hot spots or over-cooled areas. Power IQ is offered as a virtual and a hardware appliance. A free trial version of Raritan's Power IQ software is available at http://www.raritan.com/power-iq-download/
