The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has today started a national campaign to provide free meals to furloughed Federal Transport Security Administration (TSA) agents right across the United States.
The RRT will be providing thousands of hot meals to TSA employees at dozens of major airports across the country, many of whom are serving their fellow citizens by working without pay as a result of the recent partial government shutdown.
Over 4,000 free meals in total will be served by RRT volunteers over the course of the next week at major airports including Chicago, Philadelphia, Newark, San Antonio, Columbus, Omaha, North Dakota, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Oakland, Des Moines, Detroit, Portland, and Cleveland.
We are also working to coordinate meals for TSA workers at airports over the next week including LAX, San Francisco, New York, Seattle and Boston.
Chicago ORD alone have requested 700 meals for their employees.
The RRT, an initiative of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, is staffed by Church volunteers who provide catering services during a range of charitable events and emergencies.
Earl Gracey from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, said the RRT is always looking for opportunities to provide gestures of compassion and support to those in need.
"First and foremost, we are Christians, and lending a helping hand to those in need is central to our beliefs. The meals are a modest gesture to show our support for those who are working without pay," he said.
"The shutdown is affecting the lives of Americans right across the country, however, we are very grateful for the continued hard work of the TSA men and women in their dedication to protecting their country.
"Obviously workers face challenging financial times ahead - however we genuinely hope the meals we serve will help ease the burden in the smallest way.
"The RRT will continue to work closely with the TSA, and where possible, will further our efforts to feed workers at airports across the United States," said Mr. Gracey.
Every day in some small way, RRT volunteers offer a helping hand to those in need. For more information about the Rapid Relief Team, go to https://www.rapidreliefteam.org/
