Randstad Technologies, CIO Executive Council host women IT leaders at Seattle networking night

SEATTLE, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Randstad Technologies, a leading technology talent and solutions provider in Seattle and across the U.S., and the CIO Executive Council are hosting a networking event next Thursday, Oct. 13, for women technology leaders, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Edgewater Hotel. The event is part of a series of Randstad initiatives aimed at supporting women in the information technology (IT) field.

The latest national figures from the Census Bureau show that women's representation in the IT workforce is shrinking – from 31 percent in 1990 down to 25 percent in 2014. Research from WANTED Analytics reinforces this trend, particularly in Seattle. There are over 17,000 current IT job openings posted by Seattle employers. Seattle employers offer a median salary of $111,550 for IT professionals, making a career in IT a good target for women. Yet of the 136,000 IT professionals in the Seattle market, only about one-fifth are women.

"Attracting more women to IT is important to our clients," said Kathy Van Pelt, Randstad Technologies vice president of strategic marketing. "We want to not only encourage more women to explore careers in IT, but we also want to let them know that an IT job does not just mean coding - there's a great variety of IT roles available."
