Randstad Technologies, CIO Executive Council host women IT leaders at Atlanta networking night
Talent and solutions provider also releases data on women in IT for Atlanta region
ATLANTA, Sept. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Randstad Technologies, a leading technology talent and solutions provider in Atlanta and across the U.S., and the CIO Executive Council are hosting a networking event today for women technology leaders, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta. The event is part of a series of Randstad initiatives aimed at supporting women in the information technology (IT) field.
The latest figures from the Census Bureau show that women's representation in the IT workforce is shrinking – from 31 percent in 1990 down to 25 percent in 2014. Research from WANTED Analytics reinforces this trend, particularly in Atlanta. There are close to 10,000 current IT job openings posted by Atlanta employers. Atlanta employers offer a median salary of $118,100 for IT professionals, making a career in IT a good target for women. Yet of the 122,000 IT professionals in the Atlanta market, only around one-quarter are women.
For employers seeking to increase diversity in their IT teams, the data does contain good news. Almost half of the women candidates in Atlanta (16,025 of 34,425) identify with an ethnicity other than Caucasian.
"Attracting more women – and more diverse talent in general – to IT is important to our client teams, as diverse perspectives add to creativity," said Kathy Van Pelt, Randstad Technologies Vice President of Strategic Marketing. "We want not only to encourage more women to explore careers in IT but to also let them know that an IT job does not just mean coding - there are many other various IT roles available."
Randstad Technologies released a study focused on a segment of the IT workforce this week, Randstad Technologies' Cybersecurity Workforce Report - 12 Markets with High Demand for Top Talent. The report reveals 12 key markets nationwide – including Atlanta – with strong demand for top-tier, enterprise-level cybersecurity talent.
The Randstad Technologies-CIO Executive Council event is for women in IT leadership positions. Please register here if you are planning on attending.
