Ralphs, Food 4 Less Raise $100,000 for Japan Relief Efforts

LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Thanks to the generosity of their customers and associates, supermarket partners Ralphs and Food 4 Less today announced that they had raised $100,696.42 for the American Red Cross' International Response Fund for its Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

The Japan Relief fundraising campaign ran from March 21 through April 9, 2011 at all Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores in Southern California, southern Nevada, Illinois and Indiana, and Foods Co stores in central and northern California.

"The magnitude of our fundraising effort really speaks to the commitment and generosity of our customers and associates," said Mike Donnelly, President of Ralphs Supermarkets. "It is our hope that our donations will help the Red Cross provide much needed assistance to the victims and families of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami."

Ralphs and Food 4 Less have a history of contributing and raising funds to assist victims of disasters, including last year's Haitian earthquake relief effort, the South Asia tsunami relief effort in 2005, the Southern California wildfires of 2003, Hurricane Katrina, the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., and the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Ralphs and Food 4 Less believe in being good corporate citizens by contributing to the diverse communities they serve. Last year, Ralphs and Food 4 Less combined to provide more than $8 million in cash and in-kind donations to organizations focused on health, education, the fight against hunger and developing our youth.
