Rallycross Car Races By National Monuments In The Streets Of Washington, DC
Red Bull Global Rallycross Comes to the Capital on June 21 and 22
WASHINGTON, June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the most recognizable spots of our nation's capital were visited by the latest in motorsports as a Red Bull Global Rallycross car got the presidential treatment, motorcade-style, on its way to the race this Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 at RFK Stadium.
For the first time in over ten years, Washington, DC will feel the thrill of revving engines, precision driving and the smell of burning rubber as the intense action of professional motorsports racing parks itself on iconic American turf.
Tire smoke wasn't the only thing left in the wake of one of the most respected performance and Rallycar drivers in the world, Rhys Millen, as he toured his adopted country's famous landmarks during the height of tourist season. Getting escorted through the city within a motorcade, Millen was struck by the view of both the US Capitol Building and the Washington Monument. His journey ended at the dirt and gravel racetrack at RFK stadium where Red Bull Global Rallycross will take place this weekend. View the action on Youtube here.
"Being that this is my first time in DC, it's been incredible to bring my race car to the historic streets and iconic locations. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Millen, who is a stunt driver when not professional Rallycross racing. "Couldn't imagine a better build-up for the race this weekend".
Red Bull Global Rallycross combines the best aspects of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition to deliver fierce motorsports excitement. Fans will experience side-by-side, wheel-to-wheel racing with modified production cars with 600 horsepower and 610 pounds of torque. Racers require power, agility and athleticism to race on the track that incorporates both street and dirt sections with tight turns and jumps.
Tickets are available for Red Bull Global Rallycross this Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 at RFK Stadium. Red Bull Global Rallycross will be broadcasted live from Washington, DC on Sunday, June 22, 2:00 PM EST/11:00 AM PST, nationally on NBC.
