Rally Software's Ryan Martens Named Boulder Chamber's 2014 Business Person of the Year
Martens recognized for founding Rally Software, the first Certified B-Corp in the nation to go public
BOULDER, Colo., March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rally (NYSE: RALY), a leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for managing Agile software development, today announced that the company's Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ryan Martens, has been named 2014 Business Person of the Year by the Boulder Chamber. As founder of Rally, Martens is being recognized for creating a company culture focused on giving back to the community and developing solutions that enable other businesses to accelerate the pace of innovation.
"It's an honor to be recognized for an award that celebrates businesses that can balance economic, social and environmental challenges. I'm grateful to Rally's employees, customers and community who have shaped both myself and this company over the past decade," said Martens. "Working together we've built impactful solutions that inspire continuous innovation and collaboration in how we work and in how we give back to the communities where we live."
Rally's commitment to give back, live its core values, and protect the planet have allowed the company to meet the rigorous standards of B Corporation certification since 2010. As a member of the B Corp community -- which includes companies like Ben & Jerry's, Patagonia, Method, and Seventh Generation -- Rally demonstrates its desire to be measured by more than profits, and to impact stakeholders including employees, local communities, and the environment.
Since founding Rally in 2002, Martens' vision has been to drive a fundamental shift in how software is developed and delivered. With a strong commitment to the triple bottom line -- People, Profit and Planet -- Martens built Rally with the philosophy that a for-profit company can be instrumental in driving social good. After a decade of Rally giving of its time and talents, in 2013 a financial milestone was realized after a successful initial public offering. This funding enabled the company to deliver on its founding promise to give back to the community. The majority of its $1.38 million gift was a donation to the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County, and the creation of the Rally for Impact Foundation.
In 2013, Rally Software earned the B Corp "Best for Workers" designation with an overall score in the top 10 percent of all Certified B Corporations for the company's positive relationship with its workforce, compensation, benefits, training programs, ownership, management/worker communication, job flexibility, corporate culture, and health and safety. The company was also recognized in Outside magazine's Best Place to Work list and ranked No. 8 on Fortune Magazine's Great Places to Work Best-Medium-Size Workplaces list.
Martens will be recognized during the Celebration of Leadership, an event hosted by the Boulder Chamber at the Boulder Theater on April 2.
