Rally Software Acquires Mobile Application for the iPhone
Rally for the iPhone Lets Agile Development Teams Check Real-Time Project Status and Update Rally Project Data from any Location
BOULDER, Colo., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Rally®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (ALM), has acquired Rally for the iPhone® from Blue Hole Software. Previously a $15 app called ScrumAway, Rally today announces that Rally for the iPhone has been relaunched as a free application that offers anytime, anywhere access to the real-time status, progress and quality of Agile development projects. Rally for the iPhone connects to Rally's award-winning ALM platform to help project teams efficiently plan, update and track software releases that propel business innovation. The acquisition extends Rally's integration footprint to include mobile access, allowing users to view and edit status flowing directly from any of Rally's Agile lifecycle management platforms - Unlimited, Enterprise or Community Edition. Rally for the iPhone is available immediately as a free download in Apple's App Store.
Rally for the iPhone is a simple application with an intuitive interface that provides a mobile view into Rally iterations, releases, backlogs, stories, defects, and tasks. The app allows users to check project status and health, re-rank stories or defects within iterations and backlogs, as well as edit work and create new work items. This mobile visibility enables developers, ScrumMasters and product managers to effectively prioritize work, communicate release status to the rest of the organization, and prioritize product backlogs to ensure that development teams are focusing on features that are the most valuable to customers.
"Rally is expanding our business through strategic acquisitions to ensure we're offering the best ALM products to help companies achieve superior ROI, reduce risk, and increase productivity," said Ryan Martens, Rally's founder and CTO. "We've acquired AgileZen and Rally for the iPhone this year, which has strengthened our position in the emerging Kanban market and demonstrated our first step in our larger strategy of providing mobile access to Rally's premier ALM platform."
"I've come to rely on Rally for the iPhone on a daily basis," said Miovision's Chief Product Officer Kevin Madill. "From a device I always have with me, I can add tasks to the backlog on-the-fly and quickly check on the status of projects. It's a great efficiency tool that gives me the real-time visibility and insight necessary for making better decisions as we implement Rally's Agile ALM across our organization."
Mobile visibility into Rally project data allows team members to track release and iteration status anytime, anywhere. A navigation bar allows users to search for projects, select from a list of recent projects, or instantly access assigned tasks with a single tap. The home page displays release and iteration health at-a glance with progress bars showing accepted stories and task burndown versus remaining work. Users can scroll through releases or iterations, create, edit, and re-rank stories and defects, as well as drill-down to update the status of work items and tasks.
Rally for the iPhone feature highlights:
- At-a-glance release/iteration status indicator
- Bar graph of accepted and to-do lists
- List of stories/defects scheduled in a release/iteration
- Manage requirements backlog, including drag-and-drop re-ranking within a release/iteration
