RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology hiring in Raleigh should start off strong in 2018, according to the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. Twenty percent of CIOs say they plan to add full-time technology professionals to their teams in the first half of the new year, up seven percentage points from a year ago. Another 63 percent expect to maintain staff levels by filling vacant roles. In addition to hiring plans, the report also highlights technology skills in demand and CIOs' top priorities for the first six months of the year.
"It continues to be a tight market for qualified tech candidates in Raleigh," said Anthony Fernandez, metro market manager for Robert Half Technology in Raleigh. "Employers are adapting by making quick and competitive offers to secure the talent they need in order to meet increasing business demands."
Hiring Challenges and Skills in Demand
It continues to be a competitive hiring environment: 61 percent of CIOs in Raleigh said that it's challenging to find skilled IT professionals in today's market. The skills in greatest demand within their organizations, according to respondents, include:
- Desktop support (55 percent)
- Network administration (55 percent)
- Wireless network management (49 percent)
Top Priorities
When asked to name their top priority for the next six months, 28 percent of Raleigh CIOs said they will focus on innovation or helping grow the business. Other priorities will include:
- Maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information (26 percent)
- Upgrading existing systems for business efficiency (18 percent)
- Technology innovations and investing in new technologies (15 percent)
- Staff retention (12 percent)
"Employers are offering other perks and incentives outside of compensation to lure top candidates, including increased vacation time, bonuses, and opportunities for growth," continued Fernandez. "For these candidates, they are accepting job offers with the organizations who present the best offer first, taking into consideration: compensation, location, culture and whether the company is working with cutting-edge technologies."
