Rainbow Sash Movement (LGBT Catholics): Gay Marriage demonstration outside of Chicago's Holy Name Cathedral
CHICAGO, Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rainbow Sash Movement, Gay Liberation Network and other groups and individuals will be demonstrating outside of Holy Name Cathedral this Sunday, February 10 @ 10:30AM.
The purpose of this demonstration is to call for LGBT Marriage now in Illinois, and support the voices of Gov. Pat Quinn, Senate President John Cullerton, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, and Equality Illinois in calling for swift action on the bill.
We come to the Cathedral year after year because Cardinal George has used his pulpit in this house of worship as platform not only to attack Gay Marriage, but also to orchestrate his attacks on the Chicago LGBT Community. This was not done by our choosing. The Cardinals refusal over the years not to engage in a reasonable discussion about rights and responsibilities when it came to the LGBT community has given us no alternative.
When history looks back on the Illinois Gay Marriage debate the position of both the Illinois Catholic Conference and Cardinal George will seem as obscure and absurd as debating the decriminalization of homosexuality seems now.
Later in the evening the Rainbow Sash Movement is asking our supporters and people of goodwill both Catholic and non-Catholic to join us at the 7PM Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, located at 708 West Belmont as we turn to God in prayer for the passage of this civil rights legislation.
It is time for Gay Marriage in land of Lincoln.
