Radix Registry Sees No Contest on Several ICANN New gTLD Applications
- ICANN reveal shows Radix as the only applicant for .space, .press and .host -
AUSTIN, Texas and DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Directi Group, a global leader in Internet products and Web services, and its new subsidiary, Radix, today announced that it is the sole ICANN gTLD applicant for the .space, .press and .host strings. It was also revealed that Radix will be competing on the remaining 28 out of 31 gTLDs that it has applied for.
According to latest updates from ICANN, there are 1930 applications for new generic top level domains. Of these, there are 303 applications from the Asia-Pacific Region and Radix (http://radixregistry.com), is the largest applicant from this region with a portfolio of 31 new gTLD strings.
"We are very excited to be a part of the Internet's next genesis," said Bhavin Turakhia, founder of Directi and Radix. "This new gTLD process gives industry stalwarts an opportunity to leverage their extensive experience and apply it to developing stronger foundations for the future of the internet. This next phase of the Internet is an exciting time for consumers. People will finally be able to register first-choice domain names and not settle for hyphenated two letter names."
The most competitive string is .app with 13 applicants in total. Other top strings include:
- 11 for .home
- Nine for .blog and .shop
- Eight for .movie and .music
- Seven for .store, .hotel, .news, .web
- Six for .online, .law, .baby
- Five for .site
- Four for .play, .chat and .insurance
- Three for .city, .deals, .hosting, .doctor, and .website
- Two for .loans, .ping, .click, .one, .world, .bank
Lack of competition on .host, .press and .space suggests a good chance that Radix will be awarded these strings and will operate these extensions in the future.
He added, "We see a great potential in each of the domain extensions that we've applied for. All of them will help create a better Internet for the communities they serve while ensuring that every namespace is maintained and kept free from malicious use."
Radix previously announced that it has invested $30 million in to the application process and intends to compete fully on all applications. Many of the strings applied for are considered critical or sensitive such as .bank or .loans. These applications require special consideration and additional levels of security and safety policies.
"Today's ICANN announcement marks an important milestone in the life of the Internet. ICANN's six-year new gTLD process has finally evolved into specific name strings that will compete to become the foundations of the Internet's next era," continued Bhavin.
