"We are excited to be offering this highly applicable radio receiver technology to our global base of buyers. As the majority of electronic devices include audio or radio receivers, this patented invention could be an exclusive differentiator as it provides significant battery power improvements resulting in more efficient products," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.
Key Characteristics & Benefits
The portfolio for sale includes techniques for reducing power consumption in radio receivers. To date, portable radio receivers traditionally utilize two or four 1.5-volt dry cells and the receiver draws current for separate radio receivers and audio amplifiers at this voltage. This leads to unnecessary high power consumption and short battery life resulting in expensive running costs.
The offered technology solves this consumption problem by utilizing a switch-mode converter in conjunction with a Class-D amplifier, in order to supply each section of the radio with the appropriate voltage during operation. The radio section can operate well with a low voltage, while the audio amplifier generally gives better sound quality when a higher voltage is employed, particularly when the audio output device is a loudspeaker. Techniques are disclosed for generating a voltage supply for the radio receiver circuit by using a Class-D amplifier, which is typically powered by a 3-volt battery pack. Further, components of this amplifier are used for producing power for the radio receiver circuit. This amplifier is able to generate a lower voltage supply (i.e., 1.0- to 1.5-volt) for the receiver circuit, therefore resulting in significantly reduced battery consumption.
