Race Car Driver Dion von Moltke Featured Speaker at TEDxFIU
MIAMI, Nov. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thursday, November 13th, TUDOR United SportsCar Championship driver and Florida native Dion von Moltke will speak at Florida International University's TEDx event. In a night dedicated to fearless journeys, von Moltke will be one of ten presenters speaking to the sold-out crowd.
Introduced to the world in 2009, TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Talks are a global resource of conferences dedicated to sharing innovative ideas. TEDx conferences are independent from the main brand, but operate on a local scale using the same model with a free license from TED. Von Moltke will be third in line among the night's "Fearless Journey" speakers, with presentations dedicated to creativity, innovation and humanity beginning at 5:45pm Eastern.
"It is a big honor for me to be selected as one of the speakers for the TEDxFIU event this year," said von Moltke. "Last year, I was in the audience and saw all of these amazing people open up and speak about their passions and knew that I also wanted to share my story in one of the future TEDxFIU events."
Von Moltke began racing go karts at the age of 13, winning several championships at the local and state level before advancing to the National and International levels of competition. By age 18, he advanced into professional racing, earning wins in Skip Barber, GRAND-AM and the American Le Mans Series. With a successful resume in endurance racing, von Moltke has 12 wins and 22 podiums, including one win at the legendary Rolex 24 at Daytona and two wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring. While also pursuing a career in racing, von Moltke has also been working towards a degree in Intentional Business at the university.
"Cars and motorsports are passions that I share with millions of people around the world," said von Moltke. "I am one of the very lucky few able to match my passion with my chosen career. I want to use this stage to open up and speak about my difficult journey from an amateur to a professional race car driver, and how I not only had to work on my race craft and develop as an athlete, but maybe most importantly strengthen my mental game -- how I handled adversity and how I could improve myself to stand up to the mental challenges that come with high performance endurance racing. I hope my story will shed some light on the hardships I had to confront and the resolute 100% determination I developed to guide what I did every single waking moment, and hope that this provided some inspiration and hope for drivers, and more importantly, all athletes chasing their dreams."
Following the presentations, von Moltke will take over the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Twitter account for an hour long question and answer session with the public on Friday, November 14th, at 10:30am Eastern. A live stream of the event on November, 13th will be available on tedxfiu.com starting at 5:30pm Eastern.
