NEW YORK, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- R Baby Foundation (R Baby) today announced that the seventh annual R Baby Foundation New York Tennis Tournament: Serving to Saving Babies' Lives, held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at MatchPoint NYC in Brooklyn, N.Y., raised $250,000.
The annual fundraising event, founded by Jason Pinsky of Table Management, hosted 24 doubles teams for a competitive day of tennis, which included a highly anticipated and lively Calcutta Auction beforehand. Attendees included prominent business leaders in the Tri-State Area such as Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital, David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital, Robert Pohly of Samlyn Capital, Bruce Richards of Marathon Asset Management, Jeremy Mindich of Scopia Capital, Dax Vlassis of Gates Capital Management, and John Bader of Halcyon Capital Management. Mr. Pohly and Samlyn Capital Analyst Marc Powers, who were No. 1-ranked tennis players at Yale University for four years, are the winners of this year's tournament. MatchPoint Co-Founder Nino Muhatasov also donated and participated in the event.
"The level of support and participation for our annual tennis tournament continues to grow each year," said Mr. Pinsky. "We are thrilled to bring together such a talented, competitive and generous group of players to compete and raise money for a charity about which we are all passionate."
The New York Tennis Tournament continues to be one of the region's top tennis charity events, and is one of the biggest and most successful events put on by the R Baby Foundation. In the seven years the tournament has been held, the event has raised nearly $1.75 million to improve pediatric emergency care for babies and children in the Northeast.
Over the past decade, R Baby has raised more than $10 million, with 90 cents of every dollar funding the improvement of pediatric emergency care for over 1 million children each year. The foundation has also trained and educated more than 6,000 doctors through programs at 750 hospitals worldwide.
"We are deeply moved by the generosity and commitment of the local business leaders who continue to support us," said Phyllis Rabinowitz, who, along with her husband, Andrew, started the R Baby Foundation in 2006. "This event alone accounts for a significant portion of the impact we have made in the past seven years to ensuring that all babies receive the best possible healthcare, regardless of what ER they go to."
